What you can do with Geocodio
Geocodio makes it easy to turn US and Canadian addresses into latitude/longitude coordinates and latitude/longitude coordinates into addresses. You can also enrich your location data with Census data such as FIPS codes, Congressional Districts/ridings, timezones, and more.
This guide is focused on using our spreadsheet geocoding tool. We also have an API.
Geocoding is the process of converting addresses to latitude and longitude coordinates (i.e. GPS coordinates) so that a computer can understand them. Computers do not understand addresses; they only understand coordinate pairs. Reverse geocoding, similarly, is the process of converting latitude/longitude pairs into addresses so humans can read them.
Geocodio's geocoding can:
Convert US and Canadian addresses to latitude/longitude, or
Convert US, Canadian, and Mexican latitude/longitude to approximate addresses
You can download a sample geocoded spreadsheet here or see more about results here.
Geocodio can also clean, standardize, and complete addresses, including:
Address parsing (i.e. splitting an address into street, city, state/province, and postal code)
Address standardization
Address spelling correction
Address completion
Adding counties
Geocodio can also append additional information to coordinates or addresses at the same time, including:
